Shag Explorer

Beginner & Improver

You may not have a ton of experience with Shag yet, or you’re still getting comfortable on the dance floor. We’ll focus on the fundamentals, then build up to more dynamic and challenging moves, helping you gain confidence and fluidity as you go. The goal is to have fun, push your skills, and level up your dancing in a relaxed, enjoyable way.

Shag Whiz

Intermediate+

You’ve been dancing Shag for over a year and regularly attend classes. Shag is your dance of choice, and you’re comfortable dancing at any tempo. You can lead or follow quicks, slows, falls, freezes, and jumps, and you’ve got a few fun variations of the basic step up your sleeve. You adapt easily to different partners and styles, keeping your dancing smooth, natural, and fun.

Blues

Open level

All are welcome, whether you’re just starting or have been dancing for years. The classes will focus on fundamentals of Blues dance, while also introducing more intricate movements and concepts for those with more experience. You’ll explore connection, musicality, and flow, gaining confidence in dancing at slow and upbeat tempos. Join us and level up your blues in a fun and relaxed environment, no matter where you are in your blues journey!

Spice it up: Latin blues

Treat yourself to an hour of Latin flavor! In this partnered class, you’ll explore the playful Cuban habanera rhythm, a syncopated beat that shaped both Afro-Latin and early blues music. With roots tracing back to New Orleans, Harlem, and the juke joints of the South, Latin rhythms have long influenced blues, adding a spicy, rhythmic flair to its groove. Get ready to feel the beat from head to toe!

Brake it down: Shag dynamics

Ever wanted to take a break in the middle of shag? We’ll shake up the basic pattern in this partnered class by playing with rhythm, tempo, and musical accents. You’ll explore how to break, pause, and shift dynamics. Get ready for unexpected stops and creative timing that will keep you and your partner on your toes!
